This book is,yet another wonderful example of Tanya Allan's lovely talent. The story follows the life of a young man named Jamie as he grows and matures into a beautiful young woman. First we meet Jane, who then through a series of flashbacks and changes in timeline explains how she realized Jamie wasn't real, but simply the cocoon from which Jane had yet to emerge.Jamie tries everything to fit in, joining the army and serving with distinction, but Jane simply wouldn't die. Eventually, Jane realizes that she needs to put Jamie away permanently and live her life as she was meant to be. Tanya uses a constantly changing timeline to illustrate how Jane evolves into her true self, and the method works.
My only regret with reading this story is that it strikes a little too close to home for me. I shed a few tears reading this book, but that just shows how well it was written. Bravo again Tanya.

I have just finished reading this. It highlights all the fears and horrors of transition and gender conflict. And yet it is not sad because it always seems that Jane is gradually coming to life. And then the extrordinary results of her tenacity to become a real family woman. If anyone could fight for a dream any harder, they deserve the world. If you have gender issues, you will feel a lot of emotion as you travel hand-in-hand with Jamie, the trained killer soldier, decorated for bravery, and his real self, Jane. It is this same courage that enables Jane to come to real life. Jane deserves a wonderful life - read it and see that you agree.

I always enjoy reading everything I can from Tanya Allan, she always comes through on her books
By an incredibly gifted writer. Not only is TA gifted, she is quite prolific in providing a wealth of high quality stories.
would love a sequel.
What can I say, but another winner. In saying that I have read just about everything Miss Allan has written should give you an idea what I think about this author. Great character development done with great compassion and sensitivity that makes me assume that Miss Allan might be transgender. If not, she has an uncanny knack for these type of stories.
Tanya Allan is a fantastic writer. I read from others that are critical of her spelling and gramatical errors, but since I am not an english teacher I simply read for the enjoyment of the book. "TO FIGHT FOR A DREAM" takes the reader through the trials and problems of transision. My heart went out to the character of the book and so very much of the story was therapy for me in knowing someone was able to understand my innermost feelings. I identified so very much with Jane in so many ways. I cried for Jane and Jaime and rejoiced for Jane. I sometimes feel I am all alone and Tanya Allan's story showed me I am not. this is the 7th book I read by this author and will eventually work through all of her books. Some of her other books were a bit on the "out there" catagory, but this one is dead on. It relates to anyone that has ever had a little girl inside of that male body we were born with. It is wonderfully written and very well researched. This book truly touched my heart and for that I thank you very much Ms Tanya Allan.
